Fortunately, there was a parachute in the airplane. Unfortunately, there was a hole in the parachute. Students loves to hear how the story twists and turns between fortunate and unfortunate.
During our study of transportation, students used this book to create their own version. Each pair of students was asked to choose a vehicle. They had to then think of a handful of things that could happen while traveling on that vehicle. For example, if flying in a hot air balloon.. Fortunately, you can see the beautiful landscape. Unfortunately, you cannot see anything if it is cloudy. Fortunately, a hot air balloon can travel high above the ground.
Unfortunately, it cannot go as high as an airplane. Fortunately, a hot air balloon is powdered by hot air. Unfortunately, a hot air balloon can pop. Creating the Book We used this template to help guide the students thinking while they worked together to come up with their own adventure. After completing the words and illustrations, students cut the template in half horizontally, glue the two halves together and fold it like an accordion.
